Learn to use your sketchbook as a way of seeing and interpreting the world around you, from first impressions to sustained studies and finished works in journals. Work from thumbnail sketches to rendered drawings using a range of media, from charcoal and coloured pencils to oil and chalk pastels, inks and watercolours. Pollyxenia Joannou takes you on location around Sydney and teaches you how to transfer the immediate world into visual shorthand with jottings, notations and sketches, and to understand scale, perspective and composition so you can render an accurate and expressive record of your journey. Classes are held indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) at sites such as Cockatoo Island and Carriageworks and on campus at the National Art School. Pollyxenia Joannou's paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in Australia, England and continental Europe in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Completing her Masters degree at Central Saint Martins College, London, Polly has taught in the UK and has lectured in painting and drawing at many art schools in Sydney, including Meadowbank TAFE, Design Centre Enmore and the National Art School. She was the winner of the Redland Art Award in 2016 and was awarded the Onslow Storrier Studio Residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, in 2017.
