The Benefit of Doubt is an experimental project by visual artists Fran Romano and Zoë Slee.
Over the course of their digital residency, they will explore the idea of self-doubt, self-image and related preconceptions and biases, through their respective studio practices in different cities. Using the MAY SPACE Online platform they will discuss and reflect on these ideas, how it's informing their practices, and the resulting work. They will use this digital residency to explore these concepts through an ongoing dialogue via a series of weekly postcards to each other posted on the website.
The creative process is often misunderstood. They hope that the project will engage with the community and create a platform for broader dialogue, helping to demystify the internal workings of artists as they create. Zoë Slee and Fran Romano are visual artists working primarily, but not exclusively, in the ceramic medium. The focus of their creative processes is through practice-led research.
MAY SPACE has a long and successful history of promoting artists and creating meaningful opportunities. PROJECTS, our newest venture, will create a multi-arts space for experimentation and exploration. With a monthly program, PROJECTS's aim is to enliven artists to document and share their creative practices as they present or progress towards a new body of work.
The Benefit of Doubt actively encourages input from viewers to post their thoughts and keep the conversation going.
