Fauré said that he wrote the Requiem 'purely for the pleasure of it' and unlike many requiems, the work is imbued with a sense of warmth and optimism.

In this program, the Requiem is heard alongside Fauré's much-loved Cantique de Jean Racine and Brahms' Motet, Schaffe in mir Gott.
