Still Learning

Jennifer Brady

Still Learning is an installation of new works, exploring the intersections of language in an evolving mental health experience. Situated within transitional moments of thought, this exhibition examines processes of learning through subtle humour and the aesthetics of nostalgia.

Jennifer Brady and Millie Mitchell are two Sydney-based emerging artists, both graduating from a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) at UNSW Art & Design in 2019. Brady and Mitchell have been working alongside each other for a number of years, culminating in their sharing of a studio in Alexandria.

Although their practices are seemingly disparate, the close proximity of practice has established strong, underlying connections between their works. Brady explores the complexity of thought and articulation through language and text, while Mitchell uses illustration as a means of observation of everyday moments and scenes.

These parallel solo exhibitions are a natural progression in the artist's practice as they navigate the process of creating 'new' art, in the same space as each other without the restrictions of assessment and academics. The inherently collaborative environment of their shared studio has resulted in two shows that hold conversation through their exploration of learning and play, whilst maintaining their own dialogue.
