Kinetic sound artist Mimi Kind will be premiering her installation 'Push/Pull' at the Chrissie Cotter Gallery in Camperdown.
As the artist's first solo exhibition and most ambitious project to date, Push/Pull will consist of 30 self-made electromagnet sculptures in playful and delicate interaction. Suspended like a swarm they become animated and attracted to the surrounding pieces, stirring an emotional curiosity from the viewer.
Push/Pull presents energy (i.e. electricity and magnetism) in raw and celebrated forms, and simultaneously arranges the elements in an organismic structure. Kind is drawn to electricity and magnetism as forces with mysterious qualities that evoke 'life' to the objects they act upon and travel within.
'Your work … had a certain vulnerability. For me, it felt like the human sensors, exploring their boundaries and possibilities to connect, offered a new type of communication, where we interpret each other on new levels.' - Josephine de Fijter, Studio Uncoated
