'Ikebana' The Japanese art of flower arranging

Botanical artist Clare Loveband is a student of Ikebana, under Master Vernisher Wooh. Having worked as a boutique florist, Clare yearned to study Ikebana, using only a few materials to create an arrangement. 'Ikebana gives such a sense of peace and tranquility' Clare says.

A natural progression was her desire to paint her arrangements and those of her fellow students. This has resulted in a special opportunity to enjoy this art form at the Redland Museum from the 3rd of September to 30th September. All paintings and related merchandise are available for sale during the exhibition.

Clare has a Fine Arts qualification and has studied Botanical drawing and painting with Margaret Hastie, from the Botanical Artists' Society of Queensland. This was followed by study with Gillian Rankin, former illustrator at the Herbarium at Mt. Coo-tha. In 2018 she completed study in Natural History Illustration at the University of Newcastle receiving a High Distinction.
