The SUBSTATION are hosting two events, the first being the ,Premiere of Digital Phasing directed by Percussionist Louise Devenish on Sunday 1 Nov 2020 from 5-5.30pm. Both events are FREE, but you need to register to attend. Register or this online event as 9 musicians explore the use of latency as an agent for metric change when performing online. These musicians will be distributed across the southern hemisphere in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Performed across a range of percussive instruments through gaming platform Discord, out-of-phase rhythmic cells are perceived as stable in different locations, with moments of unity experienced only in transition. Everyones unique experience of the pandemic will be mirrored with each performer and listener experiencing a unique version of this work specific to their location. A one-off Premiere, it'll not be available for streaming on demand at a later date. Do follow the event and booking links for further details, list of artists and more. Following the above event, join The SUBSTATION's Artistic Director Brad Spolding in a LIVE Interview & Q&A with Louise Devenish to discuss Digital Phasing on Thursday 12 Nov 2020 from 2-3pm. Louise's work blends performance, collaboration and artistic research. She's a passionate advocate of new music and Australian music and her performances are renown for their interpretive flair and technical brilliance. A Senior Research Fellow at Monash University, where she is also Percussion Coordinator, she recently published her first book Global Percussion Innovations: The Australian Perspective.
