Music Matinee features free live classical music at Scots' Church in the CBD on the first Tuesday of every month and a few extra dates as well. The venue is gorgeous. The Neo-Gothic style Scots' Church was planned to be "the most beautiful building in Australia" when it was built between 1871 and 1874.
It was designed by Joseph Reed and built by David Mitchell, Dame Nellie Melba's father. It has praise-worthy stained glass windows, basalt aisle columns and a timber beamed roof. It is also
renowned for its acoustic qualities
In this series of free music matinee concerts, the performers are skilled musicians who have a strong background in classical music. Some are talented students while others are seasoned performers.
Performances include chamber music choirs, soloists, organ and piano recitals and they provide their services at no charge. Musicians can also apply to perform.
This is a great program for office and other city workers, shoppers, tourists, country interstate travellers, overseas students, educational groups, local suburban residents and others who happen to be in the city and are inspired by fine music
While the concerts are free, a small donation to support this ongoing activity would be appreciated
