The fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar is the Dragon Boat Festival, a day to remember the patriotic Chinese poet Qu Yuan (c.340-278 BC).
Visit the Chinese Museum today for free and celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. There will be family oriented Dragon Boat activities happening in the Museum and in Chinatown throughout the day.
A one-hour program takes place on the hour - hear the legendary story of Qu Yuan; have your photo taken in a Dragon Boat; colour in your own special Dragon Boat Festival polaroid frame; and learn how zongzi is made (steamed rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo or reed leaf). You can explore an exhibition on the festival, Qu Yuan poetry and more festivities in Chinatown.
You'll have free access to all five floors of the Chinese Museum, including the One Million Stories exhibition that features the diverse backgrounds and characteristics of Chinese-Australians past and present.
