A generation born in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks are coming of age. These young people - Muslim and non-Muslim - have grown up only knowing a world at war on terror, and a climate of widespread Islamophobia, surveillance, and suspicion.

Scholar, award-winning author, and social commentator Randa Abdel-Fattah is breaking ground in showcasing the lives and political consciousness of young people who grew up with a rising far-right, the discourse of Trump and Brexit, and growing political polarisation.

In the long aftermath of 9/11, this is their normal.

Abdel-Fattah's analysis of the unparalleled security apparatus around terrorism, its impact, and its application in schools and minority communities is punctuated by the powerful words of the students she interviews.

Join us in conversation between Randa Abdel-Fattah and Verity Firth, Executive Director of Social Justice at UTS.

'Randa Abdel-Fattah has produced an urgent book for our time. Coming of Age in The War on Terror is a story of injustice against those who suffer because of prejudice and manufactured fear. It is a vital work about us, Australians.' - Tony Birch
