These beautiful brooches were handmade during an era when fashionable materials were in short supply due to the war effort, and people were adept at the concept of Make Do and Mend. They're making a comeback now due to more and more people showing interest in sustainable fashion.

In this free seniors class, you will learn how to use tubing gathered from coathangers to make these beautiful floral arrangements. It's up to you whether you use it as a brooch, an earring or as a decoration.

This class will be lead by Franses Ingram, a visual artist and illustrator living in the Inner West. She has been working in textiles since a child, studied at the School of Wool and Textiles in Adelaide, and has just returned from a two-month residency at the Textile Centre in Iceland where she explored prodrugs using Icelandic materials.

Having been brought up in Wales, textiles had to be functional - an idea which she has never really shaken off. She has tried to make her functional items as beautiful and colourful as possible.

This workshop is free for seniors, thanks to co-funding by a NSW Seniors Festival Grant provided by the Department of Communities and Justice.

At the end of the workshop, you are welcome to join a tour of the Reverse Garbage warehouse.
