Arkaroola Three Perspectives brings to light the combined works of Denise Lithgow, Peter Griffen and Paul Macklin who, since 2013, have journeyed each year to the spectacular mountain desert that is Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary, in search of inspiration and connection to country.
'The pilgrimage to Arkaroola is a return to roots and the ancient. Each unique encounter uncovers layers of emotion, beckoning insights into our fragile relationship with the land. Arkaroola is a thirst-quenching dive into the creative heart. We never know what will emerge, but with each return journey insight and mystery enmesh and at each turn the unspoken beckons a deeper dive.'
Arkaroola, situated on Adnyamathanha country in the Northern Flinders Ranges of South Australia, has much to offer the artist; iron bound, rust red mountains, relics of ancient sea and riverbeds, twisted, folded and thrust heavenward, sun scorched gorges violently torn through the land by the rare and welcomed rain. There are frequent encounters with fat trunked river gums, hardy survivors and the elusive yellow footed rock wallabies both seeking out a scant existence in dry times, revelling their freedom in the wet.
Through painting, drawing and textile art, Arkaroola Three Perspectives invites you into three unique engagements with the spirt of this time-worn land.
